The Technorati on being Internet famous

Whilst messing around on iMovie09 i did a few interviews at SXSW on my Flip that i’ve edited into a little vid!

Forget newspapers and TV, these are some of the Internet micro-celebs who are the media, with millions of viewers all over the world.

I ask how?

The Twitchhicker- man who attempted to travel around world using Twitter

At SXSW i caught up with the Twitchhicker- a man who attempted to travel from Newcastle to Antarctica – using only the power of Twitter.

The mission- a first of it’s kind using the micro blogging service – attracted worldwide media coverage, the BBC said he’d gained celebrity status http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7944590.stm and he featured in a number of TV reports.

The Twitchhiker fell only a tiny bit short of his target- The Antarctic- due to lack of communication services in remote places, but he ended up very close, in Stewart Island, and exceeded his target of money raised for Charity: Water.

We don’t care that he fell short- what a wonderful story and an amazing example of the power of Twitter and it’s community.

The Ice-cream man who travels world giving out free ice cream!

This man travels the world giving out free ice- cream!

I annoyed people in the ice-cream queue by doing an interview with him!

And if you’re wondering what it’s all in aid of…

…We are doing it to promote the need for safer sex:

Right now, there are over 33 million people living with HIV and AIDS around the world – and that figure is increasing every minute of every day. So what’s driving this figure up? Simple answer – for the most part, people having unsafe sex. Crazy, isn’t it. That’s why, this year, MTV and the Body Shop are asking you to say YES to safe sex. By this one simple step, you’ll be making a stand – a stand that says you’re ready to tackle this epidemic with action that will make a difference.

From March 23rd The Body Shop are selling a limited edition tantalising lip butter in their stores. Proceeds from each sale will go The Staying Alive Foundation – the MTV AIDS charity that helps young people set up grass roots projects in their communities.

On this blog you can check out all of the exciting campaign news. We’ll be updating it every week, probably more often – so make sure you stop by more than once :)

Why it’s the year of the API-Oren Michels, Mashary

At SXSW i spoke to Oren Michels of Mashary who’d crated ‘The Circus’ -A room that looks like Britney’s new album cover!

On a more serious note, Oren is the founder of Mashary- The company who built the Guardian’s API- He tells me why he thinks it’s going to be the year of the API.
