Gordon Brown take note: How Schwarzenegger is using Twitter to run the state

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger visited the Twitter offices in San Francisco yesterday. You can see the video interview with Twitter founders below. Why? Well TechCrunch reports that he’s launching his own social network to crowd source ideas for running the state.

Californian residents’ can submit ideas to the website through their Twitter account when they include the hashtag #myidea4ca along with their idea in their tweet.

Will it work? Maybe not. But hats off to him for jumping on the social media bandwagon and trying something different. Maybe he’s taking a few tricks from Obama’s use of social media, much of which was attributed to his election. Oh! If only Gordon Brown would open his eyes (literally) and try something new. Come on Gords, stop being such a boring old fart- the water’s warm, jump right in!

I have the utmost respect for Arnie, given that he’s from a non-political background he can get away with such “brave” decisions – hopefully to the benefit of Cali…

Aye, c’mon Gordan! I want to write #myideaforgordan

did you see the video- he looks every bit the Terminator or should we say Twitminator ?!

interesting to see behind the scenes at Twitter too

  3. I caught the live streaming interview today with Q&A, thanks to a Scobleizer tweet, and I must say I really enjoyed it. It was energizing. Arnie seems to be really interested in the issues, really engaged in them. He doesn’t talk down to people, and seems generally interested in them. He was talking about some issues in such detail, ordinarily it would bore you to tears, but with him, its like all the sudden your getting excited about public water works!
It was great. It was fun. I do wish every politician engaged the people like this with these social media tools, but I do think its a reflection of someone who is really enjoying what their doing, instead of your typical shills to party uberlords, spouting the party line like robots and only going through the motions just to maintain mediocrity and get re elected. Most pols are the latter, which is the root of the problem.
