GaBoom! on its way to becoming the UK’s largest game trading platform

Jess is a 20-year-old gamer from Guildford and is launching an online, user-to-user video game exchange called GaBoom.co.uk.

Crowned National Champion of the National Varsity Pitching Competition 2010, Jess is due to launch her site into open beta in July. The site employs a user matching system where users can list the games they want, list the games they own, hit a button and are automatically paired with the users they can exchange with. Gamers can use the site to sell, swap or buy their video games.

Jess came up with this idea to solve a problem she also experiences herself; that video games are expensive and not everyone can afford the games they want.

GaBoom is now running in closed beta and Jess is looking for all you gamers out there to become VIP BETA users and test GaBoom out before it launches into open beta in July. Sign up to get an exclusive look at GaBoom and start swapping your games! Go to www.gaboom.co.uk to sign up and be a VIP beta tester!

I fail to see how GaBoom is becoming a market leader as the title of this article suggests, it hasn’t even launched properly yet!

    Interesting idea though.

I was going to say exactly the same thing Leona.

What a stupid article title, how can the thing be becoming a market leader when it’s not even launched yet, it’s barely got any beta testers!

  5. That is very true, but….they could be referring to the idea/concept. For example, everyone ranted on about how great the iPad is/would be and how it is a game changer prior to its launch.

A better title would’ve been “GaBoom! Poised to be the UK’s largest game trading platform” or for a more pun esc Sun title “UK game trading is about to go GaBoom!”

    Matt :)

  6. Henry King says:

I got my beta log in last week, it seems pretty easy to use – and I don’t know what Jack is talking about, the email I got said I was one of the first 250 beta users – I’d say that is pretty good for only having been running a week!

  7. Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments about the title.

The title, ‘on its way to becoming the UK’s largest game trading platform’ is meant to referring to the idea and concept of Gaboom.co.uk and the potential it has for the future.

Thanks for your title idea Matt – I liked the pun one!

  8. David says:

Very similar concept to Swopex a few years back.. Hopefully she can pull more revenue out of it than they could!

Good luck to her though! Depending on the funding and stock of available games they have personally they may also want to look at bolting on a game rental service similar to Boomerang to start generating the recurring revenue.

Nice idea but if the cost are the same as what was said in DD then its going to cost £5-6 to swap a game far too much its cheaper to sell on ebay then buy the game used from one of the many shops that sell second hand
