Techfluff.TV joins Channel 4 and ‘Generation C in the Media Industry’!

Channel 4 hosted ‘Generation C in the Media Industry’ on October 19 and had a massive turnout of likeminded people that were all interested in the creative industries and the issues facing them today. The creative industries, especially in the UK, are a rapidly growing sector but, in knowing this, some major issues have risen to the surface. It has become quite apparent that a large portion of those in the industry come from a particularly advantaged socio economic background and ‘Generation C in the Media Industry’ brought together people from all sides of the spectrum to address  the issues around social mobility and opportunity for diversity in these outlets.

This event not only laid the ground work for social and political debate but also turned out to be the setting of wide range social networking. Karan Rai from Dance Crew said that she came to, “check out what’s going on in the media because it’s obviously a good way to present yourself and market yourself and network as well.”

Tim Campbell from Bright Ideas Trust said that it was a lively debate and that it showed him that there were a lot of people, “particularly younger people who are passionate about the creative industry and that were challenging some of the people that have made it.”

Martin Bright from New Deal of the Mind talked about how the industry has been continuously hiring people from the same backgrounds and that not only is it not sustainable it, “just can’t go on.”

On the bright side however, Sona Arora, thought that it was a great opportunity especially because the CEO spoke and was, “on our side and wants us to get involved.” Some of the advice that was given out at the event was that in this sector, you have to get yourself out there because no one is looking for you and you have to ask yourself what you are going to do to stand out. That’s the reality of the creative industries as told to us by the attendees and speakers at the ‘Generation C in the Media Industry’.

TechfluffTV covers Tweetcamp 2011!

Tweet Camp 2011 took place on October 8th at The Learning Village in London. The video coverage above gives an overall idea of how the event was set up and the mindset behind Tweetcamp and Twitter. I got the chance to speak with the woman in charge, Abigail Harris, who was inspired at her first Tweetcamp visit and wanted to, ”do a little bit of the magic again.” The event brought together people from diverse backgrounds that all had one thing in common and that was their interest in Twitter and utilizing its capabilities.

The event focused on bringing together people that hold conversations and participate in online social media together face-to-face to accelerate these conversation in an innovative setting. They did a fantastic job of opening up an outlet for those that are interested in Twitter the subject as well as using Twitter in a professional sense.

From the looks of the video above you can see that participants were engaged in social networking, in depth conversations, and strengthening connections.

TechfluffTV joins the launch of the online web series: Raptured

On October 21 I set off to The Driver in London to attend the launch party of the online web series Raptured. This 6 part web series is based around the end of the world but with a sort of twist. I was  able to speak with the writer and director, Heather Taylor, to discuss what she thinks about online web series and how she came up with the idea of Raptured.

I also met up with the rest of the cast and crew members and found out their take on this innovative process. Their was an overwhelming consistency of likeminded thoughts when it came to what the guests and attendees felt towards the utilization of online web series as a whole. “Anybody can see it from all over the world and you can reach such a greater audience through online series as opposed to regular TV series.”

After the premiere of the first episode the crowd of guests had nothing but good things to say and were all looking forward to the future of the Raptured series.

”The series itself was really engaging and the script, lighting, and camera were all fantastic!”

Take Heart India Ball 2011: Aims to empower youth through technology!

Take Heart India Ball 2011 (Final Cut) from Newspepper on Vimeo

The Take Heart India Ball of 2011 brought together people from all over the UK that share a common goal, and that is to improve the opportunities of students in India.

Take Heart India is a youth run charity that centers its attention on empowering young people via education rather than providing monetary donations.

Since 2004, an IT and language school has been providing thousands of job opportunities to students in India. Take Heart fund raising events are vital to the continuation of the charity and each year the leaders, Lucian and Sebastian Tarnowski, gather some of the UK’s most talented young people to put together these events such as the Take Heart India Ball 2011.

Take Heart has absolutely no employees and because of this, 100 % of the proceeds from charity events support their ongoing projects.

This recent event is an excellent example of how social entrepreneurs have come together and raised funds for IT programs that lead to an endless amount of possibilities for the students in India.

Hollywood Meets Silicon Valley – Newspepper goes Stateside!

We’re so excited to be launching our four year old company in USA. We have been running out of the UK and Europe for the past four years and decided it’s time to expand stateside!

Now, it’s company tradition to film a spoof music video, and this year since we’re launching over here, we thought this American classic was pretty fitting!

Tonight, (11/10/11), we are having a party at Room 86 on Hollywood Boulevard, not only to launch our company in LA, but to celebrate the convergence between Hollywood and Silicon Valley.

Our new venture ‘Hollywood meets Silicon Valley’ is hoping to tangibly bring together the two worlds which are already merging. With celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga falling over themselves to invest in start-ups, clearly there is in an interest from Hollywood. Not only this, but Hollywood is now looking to Silicon Valley for it’s content – with movies such as The Social Network taking over $200,000,000 at the Box Office, and the Steve Jobs movie, and Wikileaks The Movie set to hit the Silver Screen soon.
