Inside look at Wappwolf’s San Francisco Launch Party

Wappwolf is a combination of many tools that are already available on the web, just easily accessible via mobile. For example, you want to Import multiple photos, rotate and deliver the photos from one screen? Wappwolf will enable that. It appears Wappwolfs overall goal is to make difficult tasks streamlined for all platforms, through a unified and simple user interface.

With Wappwolf, automated editing of large amounts of files is made simple. By selecting your “Input” source (Email, Dropbox, Uploading, etc), users are given a preset amount of “Actions” to perform. Previously tedious tasks such as image scaling, image conversion, renaming of files and others are carrier out by the Wapwolf service, saving the users time. For a full list of the actions possible within Wappwolf, please check out their website at Wappwolf.com

The Austrian company has recently relocated to the Silicon Valley and our sister site, Newspepper.com, took an inside look at their launch party. As you may know, Newspepper also launched in San Francisco and Los Angeles this fall. We have Videography, Editing, and PR crews in both cities available for hire!

Top 5 Tech PR Stunts of 2011!

Sometimes you get companies that are willing to go the extra mile to get their message heard and this year there have been a number of tech-related PR stunts that have succeeded in doing just that….

Today, we’re bringing you 2011’s most memorable tech-related PR stunts of the year:

1. Huddle takes on SharePoint on its home turf in Anaheim

At Microsoft’s annual SharePoint Conference in October this year, Huddle, the leader in cloud collaboration and content management for the enterprise, caused quite a stir by sending in a 120 piece marching band, footballers and cheerleaders to the venue. It was a bold move and, as TechCrunch reported, the police tried to shut them down. This is a classic example of a challenger taking on the big boys and having some fun with it. Watch the video trailer, produced by our sister company Newspepper, to see how it all went down!

This stunt was part of a wider marketing campaign, which also consisted of billboards going up across San Francisco.

2. Salesforce vs Oracle – Marc’s keynote moves to St Regis Hotel

This unexpected dispute turned out to be a real coup for Salesforce this year, and truly illustrated the power of PR. When Marc Benioff of Salesforce rubbed Larry Ellison up the wrong way on twitter, Ellison made the error of not rising above the jibes, and took away Benioff’s speaker slot at the Openworld conference.

The backlash resulted in Salesforce gaining more coverage than the speechat the conference would have received, as Benioff indignantly moved his speech to a hotel down the street. With the blogosphere and twitter lighting up that night, Benioff tweeted: “You can’t buy this type of advertising. Thank you Larry!”

3. Microsoft Bing vs Google – Jay Z’s Decode book

What do you do when you want to take on Google? Hire a rapper of course! As Silicon Valley and Hollywood continues to converge, Microsoft partnered up with Jay-Z to promote his book Decode. This brilliant campaign seeded out pages of Jay-Z’s book one at a time via a variety of channels, including billboards, on the bottom of swimming pools and even wrapped on a car. Fans were able to track down the new pages in the book using Bing maps and clues left within Bing search engines and social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. The campaign proved highly successful increasing Jay’Z’s Facebook fans by one million and Bing’s search queries by 11% in just month. As a result it became an award winning campaign at Cannes festival this year.  Watch the video below to see how this amazing stunt was done.

4. Angry Birds contest at 33,000 feet

Everyones favourite iPhone app, Angry Birds, climbed to new heights this year by launching a competition 33,000 feet in the air. Eight super fans of the game were flown by FinAir, to compete in an epic battle while travelling from Rovio’s home country of Finland to Singapore. Watch the promo video below – no wonder it created a buzz for fans all around the world!

5. Morton’s steakhouse twitter stunt

When Peter Shankman (pictured below) tweeted at Morton’s Steak House that he would love nothing more than a juicy steak after a long flight, little did he know that the Morton’s PR team, monitoring the Twitter account, were ready to put the wheels in motion. Morton’s tracked down his arrival time, hired a driver to take him to their local steakhouse and served Peter Shankman’s a steak that would make anyone’s mouth water. Morton’s were rather quick to act on what they saw as a potentially great PR opportunity. It may have had something to do with the fact that Shankman has over 100, 000 twitter followers, as well as being the author of a book about achieving great customer service through social media, called Customer Service: New Rules for a Social Media World. We may not have 100,000 followers, but it still won’t stop us from tweeting at @Apple for the brand new iPhone for Christmas!

What does the future hold for the tech industry in 2012?

Wouldn’t we all like a magic crystal ball to predict the future! Not only would we know the top lottery numbers for the million dollar cash draw, but we would also know which companies and startups would be the hottest property for 2012. Although we can’t predict the future, this hasn’t stopped some of the media’s top commentators and analysts having a go!

In the video above, PRSA Silicon Valley takes a look at what’s hot and what’s not for next year. The video tracks back to 2008, when we were all going gaga for smartphones (and still are), and follows the interesting predictions right up to 2012 and beyond.

We are going to make the bold prediction that in 2012, and in the near future, apps will no longer exist in the current form. You won’t download them, but they will available via ‘the cloud’ and the web itself!

What are your predictions for top technology trends for next year?

Europas Tech Start-up Awards 2011

Europas Tech Start Up Awards 2011 (Final Cut) from Newspepper on Vimeo.

The evening of November 17 marked the beginning of The Europas! The European Tech Start-up Awards of 2011 was hosted at London’s fashionable Carbon Bar this year. I was lucky enough to join the crowds of over 400 prestigious members of the tech community to talk all things tech and to find out this years winners.

The goal of the evening was to highlight the importance of the tech industry for social entrepreneurs and to portray those that have done exceedingly well in Europe’s start-up tech industry this past year. You could feel the anticipation and excitement as the doors opened and the guests began streaming in.

Mike Butcher, the chair of the advisory board and editor of TechCrunch, made an incredible entrance seated on a Harley Davidson motorcycle to begin the awards ceremony!

I got to speak to some the winners from the evening including the winner of the best gaming start-up award, Nordeus, best social networking start-up and the grand prix 2011 winner which were both taken home by Peer Index. Among the other winners of the night were Pusher for best start-up tools for start-ups and Amen for best mobile or apps start-up.

I was able to catch up with Mike at the end of the night after he had been swarmed by the masses and thanked for his efforts and vision for the tech start up community and he said, “as you can see it’s incredibly packed and I’m not sure we could really fit everyone in here but it just goes to show the sheer amount of enthusiasm people have for start- ups in Europe. I think it’s now beyond doubt that European tech startups can punch out to a global market directly from a European base.”

The evening was far from over when my camera crew and I packed up and head out around midnight. The buzz and celebration of the 2011 Europas continued well into the night. If you are interested in learning more about all things tech and online startup businesses you should keep an eye out for next years Europas and find out how Mike Butcher is going to top his Harley Davidson entrance!
